BlackBerry Storm in India

January 13th, 2009 No comments

The Storm is here! RIM has finally brought their highly anticipated touchscreen BlackBerry, the 9500, to the country and a soft launch was held today at the Vodafone office here in Mumbai. The handset was demo-ed at the event and looked every bit as good as the images we carried so far.

RIM’s BlackBerry’s Storm 9500 is equipped with the following features –

  • 3.25-inch TFT SurePress touchscreen with a resolution of 360 x 480 (184ppi) pixels and 65k colors with an accelerometer for screen rotation
  • 1GB internal memory with microSD card support and a 1GB microSD card bundled
  • Support for 3G (HSDPA), GPRS/EDGE, Bluetooth 2.0 (A2DP/AVRCP)) and USB v2.0
  • GPS with A-GPS support and Geotagging for Blackberry Maps (not available for India yet) and Google Maps (Preloaded)
  • DataViz Documents to Go
  • JAVA Support
  • 3 megapixel AF camera with flash
  • 3.5mm earphone socket

Like the Blackberry Bold before it, the Storm is RIM’s attempt at a full function device over a broader spectrum of usage. Fully loaded and prepared for all your multimedia with RIM’s clickable touchscreen technology as well as retention of the typical BlackBerry OS and functionality. It also comes with full support for chat services and connectivity to social networking sites like Facebook and Flickr. The Storm is a slim sleek handset with a lot to offer to all genres; but more on that in the preview. So stay tuned.

The Storm is priced at Rs. 27, 990 and will be available at select Vodafone outlets only from January 15th 2009.
